Thelma Goncalez - Staff Scientist
"My research focuses on Brazilian blood donors' knowledge,
attitudes and beliefs. These studies seek to understand the
determinants and motivations of donors in a society that is
developing social support systems. I am currently participating in
the REDS II International Brazil study being conducted as a
partnership between three geographically diverse blood centers in
Brazil and U.S.-based researchers. This study includes protocols on
Chagas disease, HIV risk factors in donors, motivations and
deferrals in addition to collections of a large common database from
each of the centers. My role includes study design, protocol
development, and serving as a key link between Brazilian and U.S.
Investigators."
