2017 SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

BLOOD SYSTEMS RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Blood Systems Research Institute (www.bsrisf.org) in San Francisco, an affiliate of the University of California, San Francisco, has openings for full-time 8-week paid internship positions as part of a larger internship program. Selected students are eligible for a $4,000 stipend for the successful completion of the program. Students will participate in seminars, presentations and institutional events. The Summer Internship Program at BSRI provides undergraduate and master’s students the opportunity to participate in research in the areas of transfusion medicine and cellular therapy through pairing with an investigator/mentor in one of the following research areas:

Requirements:

Candidates are required to be enrolled in an educational institution (must be matriculated in semester before or after summer 2017), work in a team environment, set priorities, and devote full time to this training experience. Candidates must also have effective oral and written communication skills and be self-motivated with good organizational skills.

The Institute is proud to produce some of the nation’s top transfusion medicine research by experts in such fields as transfusion-transmitted infections like HIV, HCV and HTLV; emerging infectious diseases like Chagas’ disease and West Nile virus; and preparing stem cells for therapy. BSRI began in 1959 as the Scientific Services Department of the Irwin Memorial Blood Bank in San Francisco and is one of only four significant blood-bank sponsored research programs in the United Sates.
